Four New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home
With a new year comes New Year's Resolutions. If you’re anything like us, we’re not the best at keeping our resolutions past January so this year we’re trying something different. We’re making resolutions for our home.
Here are four examples of New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home:
Get Rid of Clutter
This is the first resolution and it’s the easiest. You can work on this early in the year and you’ll feel more at home and less stressed in your house once you start clearing the clutter. Do it one room at a time and organize the “junk” into piles. Make one pile for donations, one pile for trash and recyclables and one for things you can sell. Make this task manageable by working on one room per month.
Make Your Home More Energy Efficient
This is one of our favorite resolutions and it was inspired by Life Hack. They suggest starting with small things like recycling and turning off the water when you’re not actively using it. Turning off lights when you’re not in a room and getting energy-efficient bulbs is another way to help save your electricity bill — and the environment. This is one resolution you can feel good about keeping throughout 2020.
Designate a Space for Mail
Keeping mail organized and in one space is a very common household problem. It’s easy to keep your house clutter-free when you have a designated space just for your mail. Get an organized mail keeper with different spots for everything you need.
Make Your Home Safer
It’s a new year and it’s the perfect time to make your home more safe for you and your family. It’s never been easier to do this yourself at a low cost. You can install indoor/outdoor cameras (like a Ring) or alarms for extra peace of mind. HGTV also suggests taking this time to check your home for radon. While you’re at it, check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Read some more tips from HGTV here.
