This is the Perfect Paint Color for a Southern Front Porch
The front porch is the first thing that welcomes visitors. Even before potential buyers, friends or families step inside your house, your porch is their first impression. Now,Southern Living has found the perfect paint color for the most inviting southern front porch.
The color? Haint blue. Never heard of it? We hadn't either. According toToday, the term “haint” is a southern take on the word “haunt.” Benjamin Moore’s Ellen O’Neill says it all goes back to water. “Blue represented water and apparently spirits can’t traverse water. People would paint the ceilings, the window trim and sometimes to the doors” in an effort to keep the spirits away. In the south, that trend stuck. Now, it’s considered the perfect shade to welcome people to your home.
Southern Living suggests using the haint blue shade to paint your porch ceiling. It’s not too powerful, it’s inviting and, basically, it’s just pretty. If you’re selling your home, the pale blue color would be a great shade for your porch ceiling. If you’re not selling, it could also be used on shutters and windows. That may be too much if your home is on the market, though.
With so many shades of haint blue, it can be difficult to pick the right one. The southern magazine has found just the right ones. They suggest one Sherwin-Williams shade that’s not too bright. See that color and all the others that may suit your southern househere.
