Interior Design Trends to Watch in 2018
The real estate market will change in the new year and so will interior design. With a new year comes new trendy decor ideas, some of which may be a perfect match for your home. In 2018, you’ll see more colors in homes. Bathrooms will feel more like a weekend getaway at the spa and a floor pattern from the 1970s makes a comeback. Here are some interior design trends to watch in the new year.
What’s the first thing visitors see when they walk into your home? Your ceiling — if it makes a statement. According to Elle Decor, stylish ceilings will be all the rage in 2018. Make your ceiling pop with wallpaper, vivid paint or complex patterns. House Beautiful has a ton of picture examples to inspire your ceiling creativity.
Still have white walls in your home? 2018 may be the year to change that. Pantone recently announced their color of the year for 2018 and it’s a stunning, statement-making ultra violet. If you don’t love Pantone’s color for making statements in your home, try other rich jewel tones. Architectural Digest has plenty of examples of how you can incorporate these hues without it being too much.
Several leaders in interior design are claiming 2018 to be the year of mixed metals. Before it was seen as a design faux pas to mix metals, but it’s not anymore. Ken Fixler, of Chicago’s Barnett Homes, told Realtor.com what he’s seeing from buyers right now. “Buyers really love to see modern, eclectic choices such as a hammered copper light fixture above the kitchen island paired with sleek chrome faucets and cabinet hardware.”
Terrazzo floors were a huge hit in the 1970s and they’re coming back. Elle Decor predicts this vintage trend will be back in the new year. If you’re not sure how to make this trend fit into your home, try searching “terrazzo” on Pinterest.
In 2018 bathrooms will start to feel more like spas. If you’ve always wanted your nightly bath to feel like a weekend at the spa, now is the time to revamp your bathroom. Freestanding bathtubs, clean colors and massive walk-in showers are just a few ways to get that relaxing vibe in the new year.
